If you received a letter like this, the next step is to contact a structural engineer for an assessment.
When an application for a FEMA grant has been approved/accepted, an approved elevation assessment is required before funds are awarded.
- "Your Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) application for residential elevation of your home(address) has made it past the State of Florida review and is now being reviewed by FEMA. You’ll recall, FEMA approval is needed for the funding to be issued.
The next FEMA-requiredd step in the process is for the homeowner to hire a structural engineer to complete an “assessment statement” outlining that the property can safely and structurally be elevated.
We cannot recommend a structural engineer. The non-profit group: FIRM: https://firmkeys.org/ is working on adding structural engineers willing to participate in our program; but you are free to hire whichever structural engineer you would like to work with. "
The expense may be reimbursable, but we won’t know for sure until the final awards are made.
